My Breadbox Story - the Commodore 64

1983, everything is fine. Lots of great radio
stations. No Modern Talking, the Love Parade nerds
aren't born yet and the dream of every computer freak
is called Commodore 64. 16 colours and 1 Mhz!
Stunning, eh?

What else do you need? Perhaps a floppy drive with
diskspace up to 170k! I pay 1300 DM (650 $) for the C64 and
VC1541 and squeeze everything in the back of my VW Golf. Back at
home I plug all together, while listening to Kim Wilde's "Love Blond" and
David Bowie's "Let's Dance". A Floppy Drive without Disks? So I have
to drive back to the shop to get some. 70 DM (35 $) for a silver Box
with 10 Disks, lot's of money... I'm racing back to my flat like
John Watson who just won the Formula One Grand Prix at
Long Beach.

Now the time has come. My C64 is alive.
